Linnaeus has failed us:
The old taxonomy
Now shows itself to be
Only a pretty dress.
We try molecular
Phylogenetics—not
Good enough. Such a plot
Cannot explain our scar.
Beneath our K-T line
Our history is swept
Clean: all truth lost except
The mass extinction's sign.
What chondrite struck us then?
Where is our Chicxulub?
Caked with ash we can't scrub
Off: how came this bleak pen?
